"Bobby" Hayes Sr.
May 26, 1943 – September 22, 2022
Robert E. "Bobby" Hayes, Sr., 79, passed away September 22, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, MS following a brief illness.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 5 PM – 8 PM at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb. Visitation will continue Monday from 10 AM until services at 11 AM at the funeral home with Bro. Brian Rhodus officiating. Burial will be at the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bobby was born May 26, 1943 in Magnolia, MS to the late James Henry Hayes and Dollie Mae Leonard Hayes.
Bobby worked for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 23 years as a Blacksmith until its closure. He also worked at James River and Georgia Pacific paper mills until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Hebron Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a Music Director. He also was an avid sports fan where he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, including football, baseball, basketball, and cheerleading. He served as a youth baseball coach for Summit DYB from 1977-82 as well as McComb Babe Ruth from 1983-85. Bobby also served one term as Alderman for the Town of Liberty.
Bobby was married to the love of his life, Cindy Hayes, for 53 years and they were never far from each other's side taking care of each other and truly exemplifying a Christ-like marriage. He was truly proud of his children's accomplishments.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Wilson Hayes, and his granddaughter, Emma Grace Hayes.
He is survived by his son Robbie Hayes (Emily) of Olive Branch, MS and daughter Susan Hayes Davis (Dade), of Watson, LA and four grandchildren, Keely Davis, Julia Davis Stovall (Hunter), Reagan Davis and Rob Hayes.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to his dear friend, Jerry Mixon for his friendship and support as his health declined.
Pallbearers will be his nephews Larry Hayes, Daryl Moore, Glenn Moore, Steve Moore, Landon Moore, and Julius Rhodus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital or to St. Jude.
