Obituary

Robert E. (Bobby) Owens, 89, a resident of Summit, MS, passed away on June 30, 2022, at his daughter's residence surrounded by his loved ones.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 1 PM to 2 PM with services to start at 2 PM at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb, MS. Rev. Chris Richardson will officiate and a private burial will take place at Pike Memorial Cemetery in McComb.

Bobby was born on October 9, 1932, in McComb, MS to the late Andy J. and Ouida Boyd Owens.

Bobby lived a life in service of others. He served both families and businesses in the McComb community and its surrounding areas for more than 50 years as the owner and operator of Owens Plumbing, a company he founded and later passed on to his family. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Bobby never met a stranger. He loved to tell jokes and had an infectious smile and laugh. He loved working outside, working with his hands, and working for others. He was a talented man who could fix anything and he enjoyed teaching others how to do the same. If you asked him to help you, he gladly would.

Bobby enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, listening to country music, and spending time with friends and family, usually outside or around a table.

His family will remember him as their greatest advocate and friend, their confidant and their mentor, a man who believed in them, loved them unconditionally, and never ever let them down. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him because he was everyone's ROCK.

Mr. Owens is proceeded in death by his parents and his wife of 65 years, Merle Eidt Owens.

He is survived by three beloved daughters: Barbara Welch (Steve), Pamela Boyd, Dianne Smith (Dannye); six grandchildren: Susan Waldrup, Valerie Slay (Clay), Rob Welch (Carrie), John Boyd (Nicole), Ashley Knotts (Terence), Josh Smith and his fiance, Maribel Ogario; and ten great-grandchildren.
