Robert A. Cockerham, 80, of Summit, MS passed away at UMMC in Jackson, MS on March 13, 2023.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 12 Noon until services at 2 PM at the Tangipahoa Baptist Church in Summit. Rev. Mike Morris and Dr. David Millican will officiate and burial will be at Tangipahoa Baptist Church Cemetery.
Robert was born on June 13, 1942 to the late Bert Cockerham Sr., and Bertha Van-Matre Cockerham.
Robert was a retired Carman from the Illinois Central Railroad having worked there for twenty four years. He was a member and served as a deacon of the Tangipahoa Baptist Church in Summit. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grand and great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was an avid fisherman that loved being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially seeing those grandbabies and great grandbabies. He was the greatest Christian man you could ever meet that loved his family, including his church family and extended family.
He was always active and you couldn't keep him out of that shop of his. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives Geneva L. Thompson Cockerham and Margaret Borger Cockerham and numerous siblings.
He is survived by two sons Robert "Bob" Cockerham Jr., (Tonya) and Vernon A. Cockerham Sr., (Shelle "Nikki"), one step-son Robb Borger (Tabitha), one step-daughter Stacy Mathis (Johnny), two brothers Bert Cockerham and Billy Cockerham, one sister Janice Pitts (William) with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Mathis, Robb Borger, Jeremy Wooley, Paul McClelland, James Hatfield and Michael Leibenguth.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Corey Cockerham, Zack Cockerham and Vernon Cockerham Jr.
