Obituary

Robert "Jerry" Wallace, 81, of Jayess, MS, passed away peacefully at his home January 24, 2023.

Jerry was born the youngest of three children to Myrtle and Tommy Wallace in Progress, MS on February 15, 1941.

As a young man, immediately following his high school graduation, Jerry moved to Jayess, MS. He met his wife, Lavonne Reid in 1960 at New Bethel Church where they both attended. They married on July 29, 1962 surrounded by friends and family. They had two sons, Robert and Damon, and one daughter Marjorie.

He owned and operated Wallace Portable Buildings in McComb, MS for 30 years before retiring in 2007. He had a passion for helping people in the community, and was never happier than when he was helping a neighbor or sharing vegetables from his garden with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lavonne; children, Robert (Karen) Wallace, Damon (Rita) Wallace, and Marjorie (Mike) Dewitt; grandchildren, Trey and Bella Dewitt, Krista Wallace and Brittany (Sawyer) Sparks, and one great-granddaughter Audrey Sparks.

He is also survived by a sister, Dolly McKenzie, and brother, Larry (Olive) Wallace. as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Wallace and his father, Tommy Wallace.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life which will be held at New Bethel Church, Jayess MS, Saturday, January 28 At 1:00 pm with visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
