Obituary

Ronald Lee Leggett, 83, was born in Pollock, La and a resident of McComb passed away on March 14, 2025. Ron was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and his passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him.

Born on August 7, 1941, Ron served in both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army, with his final military service in Chicago. It was there that he trained and worked under Terry Gorski, a pioneer in relapse prevention, shaping his deep commitment to helping others.

Ron celebrated 52 years of sobriety on August 17, 2024. He believed God worked powerfully through Alcoholics Anonymous and was committed to supporting others through their journey since AA was so vital and transformative in his life. He enjoyed and appreciated the genuine and loving friends who became his family through this incredible community.

Throughout his life, Ron showed a deep love for adventure and the outdoors. He was an avid canoer/kayaker, spending countless hours navigating rivers, finding peace and solace on the water. He shared this passion with his children and grandchildren and for years , he and his fellow AA members created unforgettable memories on the water and camping in the Ozark and Smoky Mountains.

Ron had a delightful sense of humor and loved storytelling, joke telling and family stories. His love for music was legendary. He built a 15 by 8 foot shelving unit to house his turntables, receivers, reel to reels and several speakers, forming a personal early surround system. Spending time with him then meant you were treated to the finest music of almost all genres.

Recently, Ron had become insatiably interested in watching and reading everything about horse racing, developing an appreciation for the trainers, owners, jockeys and horses, particularly Torpedo Anna.

Ron was preceded in death by his son, Michael Leggett, his brother, Hank Leggett, his mother, Margie Beeson, and his father, Henry H Leggett, Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Lynda Leggett Shaw, his sister, Jeraline Saia and husband, Steve, his grandchildren, Michaelyn Leggett, Max Leggett, Corey and Becca Shaw, Rachel Shaw and Stephen Shaw, his 5 great-granddaughters, Madeline, Marley, Marabelle, Iris and Jun Violet and his niece, Lisa West and nephews, Greg Ritchie, Mark Leggett and Warren Leggett and sister-in-law, Dawn Leggett.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Ron's many friends and extended family for their unwavering support and kindness through his life.
