Obituary

Shirley Jean Hughes Chisholm, 80, of Brookhaven, MS., passed away on August 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be Thursday September 19, 2024 from 12 Noon until services at 2 PM at Gum Grove Baptist Church at 1233 Gum Grove Rd. SW Brookhaven, MS. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on June 28, 1944 to the late, William "Bill" Hughes and Vergie Mae Earls Hughes.

Shirley was a retired LPN and was of the Christian Faith. She was a paper carrier for both the Enterprise Journal and Daily Leader  and loved to watch "Naked and Afraid." She loved collecting dolls and crocheting doll dresses. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Chisholm, her parents, Bill Hughes and Vergie M. Earls Hughes; her in-laws, Robert Chisholm and Katie Beasley; and her brother-in-law Henry Blades.

She is survived by her son Shelby L. Chisholm of Holly Springs, MS; two daughters Sheila C. Wicker of Brookhaven, MS, Susan Call (Kenneth) of Liberty, MS; step-son Bobby Howell of Bentley, LA; step-daughter Denecia Gutheridge (Willy) of Roland, AK; nine grandchildren Larry Ganoe Jr. of Brookhaven, MS, Geneva L. Ganoe Boyd (Matt) of Smithdale, MS, Shelby L. Chisholm of Brookhaven, MS; Dannalee Lopez (Ricardo) of Thomasville, NC, Kevin Caleb Call of Liberty, MS, Colt Chisholm of Texas, Nicholas "Drew" Call (Amethyst) of Liberty, MS, Dottie Gutheridge (Roland), Ashley Avery of Bentley, LA; six great-grandchildren, Percephanie A. McCauley, Takaeda McCauley, Niklaus Nolan, Elijah Call, Estelita Rose Call, Maliya Boyd and Silver Lopez; and her sister-in-law Gracie Morgan and Bennie Morgan.

The family wants to express their special thanks to St. Luke's Hospice for Shirley's nurses and "Denise" and other staff for all their help they did to make her last couple of months a less painful time.

Also want to say thank you and we love you to a very special friend that was there for support and kind words, Sheila Bazar.
