Obituary

Smithie Buie, III, 69, a resident of Magnolia, MS; passed away July 30, 2023 at St. Dominics in Jackson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery.  Rev. Tim Buford and Rev. Jacob Daniels will officiate.  Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Smithie "Smitty", "Bud", was born on September 24, 1953 in Winslow, Arizona to Smithie Buie, Jr. and Orene Franks.  He was a member of First Baptist Church Magnolia where he served as a deacon and was a Mason. He was an active member of the Southwest Shriners for many years. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He worked for many years in the restaurant and catering business, He enjoyed the time spent cooking and would talk of wanting to be a baker.  Smithie Buie Catfish was his specialty. His thin fried catfish was the star of many fundraisers and is what he is known for.  Smithie worked for the Pike County Sheriff Department as a deputy and also for the Magnolia Police Department. He worked for the South Pike School system as a resource officer in Osyka.  He loved his family and loved his life spending time with them.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dwayne Buie.

He is survived by his wife Shelia Etheridge Buie of Magnolia, daughters Lori Buie Huffine (Chris) of Baton Rouge, LA and Kimberly Buie Roberson of Walker, LA, a son Jonathan Matthew Buie of Magnolia, MS, grandchildren Sophia Eleanor Huffine, Alex Christopher Huffine, Charli Marie Huffine, Lane Roberson, Emily Danielle Roberson, Audrey Grace Buie, sister Lawanda Hammond, and brother Dale McCallister, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Aubrey Rimes, Jimmy Clark, Dale Green, Alex Huffine, Christopher Huffine, Lane Roberson, Jessie Caston and Joseph Dunn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Honea, Willie Joe Etheridge, and Bobby Joe Etheridge.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Southwest Shriners Club.
