Obituary

Terry McLean Summers, 69, of McComb, MS, passed away on August 14, 2023, at his childhood home in McComb, MS, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 1 PM.  Visitation will be from 10AM to 1PM prior to the funeral.  Rev. Laverne Summerlin and Dr. Larry LeBlanc will be officiating.  Pallbearers will be Russ Booth, Peyton Wallace, Brendan Watson, Charles Ray "Buster" Stevenson, Tyler Reed, and Robert Hodges.  Honorary Pallbearers are Darryl Lewis, Greg McCurry, Elijah Barnes, and Terry Barnes.

Born on March 28, 1954, in McComb, he was the beloved son of Billy Ray Summers and Helen Ruth Smith Powell.

Terry was a storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh.  He was known for his kindness and big heart.  He never met a stranger.  In his leisure time, Terry enjoyed fishing, playing golf and spending time with his family.  He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Terry attended North Pike High School, graduating in the Class of 1972.  He furthered his education by attending Southwest Community College studying drafting.  His career spanned many years, working as an Outside Plant Engineer at Byers Engineering and for the last 21 years as a Grade Checker for T.L. Wallace Construction Company, Inc.  He retired on June 1, 2023.

Terry was preceded in death by his stepfather, Parham "Bud" Powell and his grandparents, Elgin & Essie Dickerson Summers and Lee & Iris Bardwell Smith, all from McComb, MS.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Ruth Smith Powell, and two sisters, Brenda Williams of McComb and Melanie McCurry (Greg) of Madison.  He also leaves behind three children: Shane Summers (Jessica), Bretta Summers (Vincent) of McComb and Chance Summers (Magan) of Petal, MS.  Terry will be deeply missed by his 10 grandchildren: Brendan Watson and Damian Selby, both from McComb; Lauren and Lawson Summers of Summit; Kayleigh Tims of Lumberton, MS; Terra Summers, Aiden Summers, Conner Summers, Evan Summers and Teagan Summers, all of Petal, MS.  Additionally, Terry was excitedly awaiting the arrival of his grandson, Preston Summers.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in McComb, MS.
