Veta Grace Freeman, 91, of Smithdale died on August 8, 2022.

Ms. Freeman was born in Franklin County to Grady Freeman and Cordie Gill Freeman, whom she served as caretaker for in their later years.

She faithfully attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Smithdale, and enjoyed crocheting, classic country music, daily walks, and growing flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Martha Howell, Ida Mae Brown, and Dorothy Dillon, and an infant brother and sister.

She is survived by her nephew John B. Howell III (Christy) and grandnephews Bentley, John IV, and Grady, of Hattiesburg.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Ms. Freeman's friends who kept her company and took her to the grocery store, appointments, and church in her later years, among them the late James "Clem" Steele, Bobby and Ann McFadden, Beulah Ann Spillman, and David Steele.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Concord Baptist Church in McCall Creek, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., the Reverend Eric Moak officiating. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crisis Pregnancy Center of Southwest Mississippi.
